In 1900 Victor Grignard published his first paper entitled "Sur quelques nouvelles combinaisons organométalliques du magnésium et leurs applications dans les synthèses d’alcools et d’hydrocarbures"

The French Academy of Sciences in association with the Société Française de Chimie, the Société de Chimie Industrielle and the Fondation de la Maison de la Chimie has decided to celebrate this centenary by holding a symposium on New Trends in Organometallic Synthesis, under the sponsorship of the Département de Chimie of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique.

This meeting will take place on the 23 and 24 November 2000 at the Ecole Supérieure de Chimie Physique Electronique de Lyon. Victor Grignard was the Director for 15 years of this school (formerly Ecole de Chimie Industrielle de Lyon) and also obtained his doctorate there.
