The Must of Industrial Catalysis Congress of the Millennium organised during the SFC 2000 days in Rennes, France
In order to open a room for discussion and experience exchanges between catalyst researchers and chemical manufacturers, SCI, in close co-operation with SFGP, organizes the colloquium New Progress and overviews in industrial catalysis, which will be held on the 21st of September 2000, during the SFC 2000 manifestation, in Rennes (France).
There is no longer need to emphasize the major importance of catalysis in chemistry. The steady progress we can see in that subject, either in homogeneous or heterogeneous catalysis, show an obvious interest for it.
Either by increasing the yield of chemical reactions while lowering their potential threshold, which reduces the energy consumption, or by improving the reactions selectivity, and so reducing the amount of by-products, catalysis will for example contribute very effectively to a sustainable technology development, which is a challenge for the next coming years.
But, if it is essential to understand the very fundamental and intimate reaction mechanism, which is the ground of the catalysis, extrapolating the research results to an industrial scale is of no less importance and is the difficult task dedicated to the Chemical Engineering.
The main target of the symposium on the Industrial Applications of Catalysis, will be to give an insight of some actual experiences of extrapolations from the bench scale to the industrial manufacturing one, with emphasize on the encountered difficulties and the reefs to be avoided.
